In commemoration of the sinking of the Titanic 100 years ago, Kings Chorale will present two concerts entitled TITANIC REMEMBERED: RECOLLECTIONS AND REFLECTIONS. These will take place on Saturday, April 28 at Wolfville Baptist Church and on Sunday, April 29 in Halifax at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Both concerts will take place at 7:30 pm.

The concert will explore music contemporary music of the era that would have been familiar to passengers aboard the Titanic. Interspersed with those pieces will be commentary about the ship, the sinking, and connections to Nova Scotia.

The centrepiece for the concert will be TITANIC REQUIEM by Quebec composer Donald Patriquin. It will feature mezzo-soprano, Christianne Rushton as well as the Baroque N’ Fiddle String Quartet.

If you are interested in reserving tickets for either of these concerts, please send a message to [email protected]

Kings Chorale is about to begin its 30th season! We are planning an exciting season that includes Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols as well as other seasonal works in our Christmas concert. In the spring we will recognize the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in a concert entitled Titanic Remembered: Recollections and Reflections. This concert will include music that would have been familiar at the time the Titanic sailed as well as Donald Patriquin’s Titanic Requem.

Kings Chorale rehearses at Berwick United Church on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30. We will begin rehearsals on Monday, September 12. New singers are always welcome.

If you are interested in singing with this non-auditioned community choir, please click on the contact button to contact the conductor.

A dozen members of Kings Chorale recently travelled to New York City to make our debut at Carnegie Hall! We were part of a larger choir participating in a DCINY program that brings singers from all over the world together for a weekend to prepare and perform large choral works with orchestra. Choirs in this performance came from all over the United States as well as Ireland and South Africa. Two works were performed: the US premiere of Gloria by Karl Jenkins as well as his Stabat Mater. Our choir was involved in the Gloria and sang a few “bits” of the Stabat Mater from the boxes in Carnegie Hall. It was interesting to watch as the audience began to look around for the source of this ethereal sound seeming to emanate from the heavens.

Karl Jenkins, a Welsh composer, put in an appearance, talked about his work, and signed many autographs!

As usual with these events, people made new friends and experienced new levels of music making!

Of course, it wasn’t all music! There was shopping, Broadway shows, shopping, the Opera, shopping, museum visits, shopping, the Empire State building, shopping, Grand Central Station, shopping, and a fabulous reception after the performance. Did I mention shopping?

All in all it was a wonderful trip. We all returned home exhausted but exhilarated!

Kings Chorale is well underway in our 28th season! Currently we are hard at work on Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi and the just published Gloria by Welsh Composer Karl Jenkins. The Jenkins was given its world premiere on July 11, 2010 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It is an exciting new work and Kings Chorale is pleased to be performing it this season.
